I Graduated! What's Next?

Sterile Processing is a rewarding career field. You’ve completed the program 3 months or 2 years depending on the curriculum and fast track abilities in person, independently online or an associate’s degree with or without 400 hours of clinical externship.

Next Steps!

• Sit for the CRCST or CBSPD exam

• Apply for entry level technician positions

• Join a local sterile processing chapter

• Network

• Interview and select a Mentor

Develop a Roadmap!

You can achieve the next steps in any order you wish. I suggest starting with community with your local chapter and begin networking. During that networking process identify potential mentors and introduce yourself and goals for your career. Ask probing questions to find the best fit for your learning style and personality.

Networking!

This can feel overwhelming depending on your personality trait. However, it’s extremely important and successful when executed correctly. A quick conversation and firm handshake can make a lasting impression. No need to sum up your resume, just your enthusiasm and desire to become a technician.

Mentorship!

Mentorship matters and can be the glue that cements your role in this field. A phenomenal mentor will hear your dreams and goals and help you develop your vision to make them reality. You must be teachable and willing to teach as well. A true mentorship gives and takes, and everyone has something valuable to offer one another.

You’ve Got This!

The key is to stay flexible. Your roadmap is yours alone, so embrace the detours and challenges along the way. Consult your mentor and adjust your plan when needed. The journey may be smooth at times and difficult at others but keep moving forward! Every path can lead you to your destination.
